What’s the Nature of CIP Ranchi entrance examination?

CIP Ranchi asks questions strictly according to the syllabus which in this case is the PG Psychology syllabus. The questions are asked from every domain of psychology and they cover each and every part.

Which areas dominate the question paper?

The following five domains of Psychology dominate the paper:
1. Statistics & Research Methodology 2. Clinical psychology 3. Social Psychology 4. Personality and Developmental Psychology 5. Cognitive Psychology & Biopsychology

The Question paper is perfectly balanced between the factual and conceptual side. So if you are preparing for UGC NET you have good chances of clearing this exam. CIP Ranchi asks questions on the pattern of UGC NET Paper 2 Pattern (Remember the old pattern with paper 2&3)

A detailed review of the question paper

Cognitive Sciences: CIP mostly asks questions about learning theories and their use in therapy. Questions have been asked about perception and memory. In Biopsychology, they ask questions about neurons, sleep and hormones.
Personality & Developmental: Questions have been asked about different theories of personality and different stages of developmental theories.
Social Psychology: Mostly questions have been asked from social cognition, compliance, attitudes, aggression. Questions are mostly conceptual.
Clinical Psychology & Abnormal Psychology: Questions from this part have been asked from different therapies and their details. Some factual questions have been asked about therapies and their developers. Questions in abnormal psychology are mostly asked about DSM (History and developmental) and personality and sexual disorders & schizophrenia. They mostly ask differential diagnosis of different disorders. But as mentioned in earlier posts MPhil Clinical Psychology is not about DSM and disorders but more than that; however, you should know every disorder and the symptoms.
Research & Statistics: A fair amount of questions have been asked from this portion and questions are mostly asked about different experimental designs and sampling methods, validity and reliability types. From stats, questions have been asked about central tendency, parametric and nonparametric tests and NPC.

The interview

The Interview is conducted by a panel of CIP experts. They mostly ask questions in statistics and research methodology and about cognitive and biopsychology. Questions are being asked from every domain of psychology but expect more questions from RM & Statistics.

Other important information about the exam:

CIP conducts the examination at its campus and not in any other state. One can fly from Delhi Airport to Ranchi (or from your nearest airport). I took a flight from Delhi and for 2100 rupees (booked 15 days before the exam). CIP campus is 18 KMs from Ranchi airport. You can take an Uber or Ola (better to book when you land). If you have less luggage you can take an Uber bike and it will cost around 80 rupees from the airport. It’s better to book hotel 2-3 days before on any platform (OYO, Makemytrip) and nearby the institute as after you finish the exam you won’t find any cabs on anything in the area, you can take an auto to the nearest place and from there book a cab to your hotel. The area is underdeveloped so don’t expect much. There are long traffic jams and it’s better to travel a day before. They conduct interviews within two days and you should pre-book the return ticket too. There is a famous restaurant named Kaveri restaurant (oldest in Ranchi) and you shouldn’t return without dining there.
