The National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro-Sciences is a premier medical institution located in Bengaluru, India. NIMHANS is the apex center for mental health and neuroscience education in the country, the institute operates autonomously under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Is NIMHANS RCI Recognised?  No. However in 2012, NIMHANS was granted "Institution of National Importance" status which turned it into an autonomous Institution that can issue degrees as well as diplomas.  All its degrees including PhDs, PDFs, M. In September 1992 the RCI Act was enacted by Parliament and it became a Statutory Body on 22 June 1993. The Act was amended by Parliament in 2000 to make it more broad-based. The mandate given to RCI is to regulate and monitor services given to persons with disabilities, to standardize syllabi, and to maintain a Central Rehabilitation Register of all qualified professionals and personnel working in the field of Rehabilitation and Special Education.
